A personal connection I had while reading this book was when Skeeter was being judged by her friends because she didn't always agree with them on things they said, and I connect to that because sometimes people judge me if I don't agree with what they are saying.  I like to state my own opinions much like Skeeter.

I would definitely recommend this to someone else because this book is filled with such strong and outstanding writing.  It gives you a look at what it was like to be a black person living in the 1960's.  It lures you in and makes you want to keep reading more because you want to know what happens next.
